Still life will be the subject while learning to see and draw with charcoal and erasure. Drawing skills benefit all visual art forms. Absolutely no experience needed.

Class topics will include:

  • Creating a composition
  • Establishing the brightest and darkest points of the subject
  • Defining the light and shadow masses
  • Finding the gesture of an object
  • How to draw volume
  • Using positive and negative space to your advantage
  • The erasure as a drawing tool

DRAWING FROM HISTORY, RIPPLES IN TIME

Lake Union is haunted by ghosts of the past, echoing through time. In this class, participants will explore past, present, and future of the Lake Union Watershed by creating quick layered gesture drawings in charcoal, based on photos and ephemera from MOHAI’s collections. The class will culminate at the water’s edge, creating a drawing representing visions for the future.

Drawing From History is offered in partnership with Gage Academy of Art.

All art making materials will be provided. Tickets include access to MOHAI’s exhibitions.

BRUSH HOUR: CHARCOAL DRAWING, SUMMER IN A BAG

Draw the things of summer we often carry in a tote bag when headed to the beach or park! For this beginner drawing class, charcoal and erasure will be your drawing tools! Absolutely no experience needed. This class is open to students of all ages and families.

ENCAUSTIC SERIES: INTO THE LANDSCAPE

This class will cover basic encaustic painting technique for the encaustic and non-encaustic artist who wants to paint images with the ancient medium of encaustic. Do you like immediacy and flexibility? This medium is for you! In this class students will work from photo references that they provide. 

Class topics include:

  • Using a heated pallet
  • Applying the paint, and scraping to remove it
  • Painting on panel and paper
  • Using drawing materials with encaustic paint
  • Fusing with a heat gun or torch

This workshop is at the Georgetown location, Studio C

PRIVATE DRAWING AND ENCAUSTIC PAINTING LESSONS WITH WILLOW

I offer private drawing and encaustic lessons in my Seattle art studio for $140 a lesson. The lessons are two hours each but if you need something different it can be arranged and will be priced at $70 an hour. Five-lesson packages are also available for $650.

SIP AND DRAW CLASS FOR FUN!

This is not just tip back a glass of wine and make a drawing that is just like everyone else’s in the room. You will be in a real art studio, making a drawing that is unique to you! No experience is necessary, I will give you one-on-one help as you draw your still life with charcoal and an eraser. Come ready to enjoy yourself and learn something new about drawing. This event lasts an hour and a half.

Arrange a Sip and Draw Class for a birthday party, reunion, team event, or as a fun way to get together with friends. Consider giving it as a gift!

Sip and Draw is available for a minimum of 5-maximum of 8 persons in Willow’s Studio. During the summer months the maxim is 10 when it can be outside in the garden. At $50 per person. It includes a drawing lesson and materials.

Wine is $10 a glass or bring your own.
